About
Jira is a community skill from Softaworks' agent toolkit (softaworks/agent-toolkit), packaged as a Claude Code plugin. It teaches your agent to work with Jira in plain words: it spots issue keys like PROJ-123, lists and searches tickets, creates and updates issues, moves them through your workflow and checks the current sprint. It isn't made by Atlassian. It drives Jira through the open-source jira CLI or Atlassian's own MCP server, whichever you have set up. What you can do with it - View an issue by its key, with its status, assignee, description and comments - List your tickets, or search with JQL (bugs created this week, unassigned high-priority issues) - Create bugs, tasks and stories, with multi-line descriptions and acceptance criteria - Move issues through your workflow, assign them and add comments - See what's in the active sprint, and add issues to a sprint with the CLI - Link issues (blocks, relates to, duplicates) with the CLI How it connects - It looks for the jira CLI first (github.com/ankitpokhrel/jira-cli). Install it with brew install ankitpokhrel/jira-cli/jira-cli, then run jira init to connect your Jira site. - With no CLI, it uses the Jira tools of Atlassian's MCP server when your agent has it connected. - With neither, it walks you through installing the CLI. How to install it In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add softaworks/agent-toolkit, then /plugin install jira@agent-toolkit. Good to know - It's a community skill, not an Atlassian product. - It fetches an issue before changing it, shows you the command or tool call first, and asks before any edit, transition or bulk change. - Linking issues through the MCP route refers to a helper script that isn't in the repository, so link issues with the CLI.
