Claude Code is Anthropic’s agentic coding tool: it reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands and works with your development tools. It runs in your terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains, in the desktop app and on the web, with a Claude subscription or an Anthropic Console account. What you can add - MCP servers: hosted ones by their address with claude mcp add --transport http (or sse for older servers), and local ones it starts with a command, with the keys they need passed as --env. Connectors you added in Claude on the web work here too. - Skills: folders with a SKILL.md in ~/.claude/skills for every project, or .claude/skills in one. Each skill also becomes a /command. - Plugins, which bring skills, commands, agents, hooks and MCP servers together, from a plugin marketplace with /plugin. Plugins you add in Claude on the web or desktop sync to it too. How it connects Local servers run on your computer. A hosted server that signs in with OAuth shows up in /mcp, where you finish signing in.
