About
Asana's plugin for Claude Code, from Anthropic's official plugin directory. It connects Claude Code to Asana's V2 MCP server, so you can create and manage tasks, search projects, update assignments and track progress from your terminal. What you can do with it - Create a task in a project and assign it - Ask what's on your plate, such as the tasks due this week - Search for projects - Update assignments and track progress Once you're connected, the tools come from Asana's MCP server, and Asana says that tool set can change over time. How it connects Installing the plugin adds one command, /asana-setup. Asana's V2 server doesn't support dynamic client registration, so the plugin can't connect on its own; /asana-setup prints the one-time steps instead. - In Asana's developer console, create an MCP app and add http://localhost:8080/callback as its redirect URL - In your own terminal, run claude mcp add --transport http --client-id YOUR_CLIENT_ID --client-secret --callback-port 8080 asana https://mcp.asana.com/v2/mcp and paste the client secret at the hidden prompt; Claude Code keeps it in your system keychain - The first time the server is used, Claude Code opens your browser so you can approve access in Asana; /mcp then shows asana as connected Good to know Everything it does happens as you, within your existing Asana permissions. Tokens issued to an MCP app only work with Asana's MCP server, not the regular Asana API. The plugin uses V2; Asana's older V1 beta server (mcp.asana.com/sse) is deprecated, with shutdown set for 5 August 2026.
