About
Firebase's plugin in Anthropic's official Claude plugin directory, published under Google's name. It adds one thing: the Firebase MCP server, which runs on your machine and lets your agent work with your Firebase projects and your app's code, from Cloud Firestore data and Authentication users to security rules, Crashlytics and deploys. What you can do with it - Create Firebase projects and apps, and set up services such as Firestore and Authentication in your workspace - Read, query and update data in Cloud Firestore and the Realtime Database - Look up Authentication users, enable or disable accounts and set custom claims - Check your Firestore and Cloud Storage security rules, or generate new ones with unit tests - Investigate Crashlytics issues and crash reports - Deploy to Firebase, read Cloud Functions logs, send Cloud Messaging notifications and update Remote Config How to install it In Claude Code, run /plugin install firebase@claude-plugins-official. The plugin starts the server with npx -y firebase-tools@latest mcp, so it needs Node.js and npm. The server acts as the account you signed in to the Firebase CLI with, or uses Application Default Credentials. How it differs from Firebase MCP The plugin has no skills or commands of its own: it's the same Firebase MCP server (listed here as Firebase MCP), packaged for a one-step install in Claude Code. Its prompts, such as firebase:init, firebase:deploy and crashlytics:connect, come from the server. Add the server by hand instead if you want to turn on only some feature groups with --only, or point it at a project folder with --dir. Good to know Firebase also publishes its own Claude marketplace (firebase/firebase-tools) and separate Firebase agent skills, which teach agents Firebase best practices alongside the server.
