About
The Firebase MCP server is Firebase's own MCP server. It runs in your development environment and lets your agent work with your Firebase projects and your app's code, using the same sign-in as the Firebase CLI. What you can do with it - Create and manage Firebase projects and apps, and set up services in your workspace - Read, query and update data in Cloud Firestore and the Realtime Database - Look up and manage Firebase Authentication users - Check and validate security rules for Firestore and Cloud Storage, or generate new ones with tests - Investigate Crashlytics issues and crash reports - Deploy to Firebase, read Cloud Functions logs, send Cloud Messaging notifications and update Remote Config How it connects It runs on your machine with npx firebase-tools@latest mcp and needs Node.js. Tools act as the account you signed in to the Firebase CLI with, or with Application Default Credentials. Some tools pass requests on to Firebase's own backend services. In Claude Code and Cursor it also comes as the Firebase plugin, together with Firebase's agent skills. Choose what it can do The --only flag turns on just the feature groups you use, such as auth, firestore and storage; the core tools are always there. The --dir flag points it at the folder that holds your firebase.json. Built-in prompts Commands like /firebase:init, /firebase:deploy and /crashlytics:connect run common tasks, and there are prompts that generate Firestore and Storage security rules with unit tests.
