About
Netlify's own agent skills for building and deploying on Netlify. Each skill is a short, factual reference for one Netlify feature, so your agent writes code the way Netlify works today without searching the docs. A router file tells the agent which skill to read for the task, and the plugin also connects Netlify's hosted MCP server. What its skills cover - Functions and Edge Functions: API routes, background and scheduled jobs, streaming, middleware and geolocation - Blobs for files and key-value data, and Netlify Database: managed Postgres with Drizzle ORM and migrations - Forms, Identity (sign-up, log-in, OAuth and roles) and access control (password protection, team-only access, SSO) - netlify.toml: redirects, headers, build settings, deploy contexts and environment variables - Framework setup for Vite, Astro, TanStack Start and Next.js, plus CDN caching and the Image CDN - AI Gateway for the OpenAI, Anthropic and Google SDKs, MCP servers on Netlify Functions, and Agent Runners - Deploys: installing and signing in to the Netlify CLI, linking a site, Git-based, manual and CI deploys, and fixing failed deploys How to install it In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add netlify/context-and-tools, then /plugin install netlify-skills@netlify-context-and-tools. It also installs as a Gemini CLI extension and from the VS Code and Cursor plugin marketplaces, and the skills alone install into any project with npx @netlify/skills@latest add --all. The MCP server The Claude Code plugin and the Gemini CLI extension also register Netlify's hosted MCP server, which lets the agent create and manage Netlify projects, deploys and environment variables. It asks you to sign in to Netlify the first time it's used, with no token or local install. Good to know - The skills tell the agent to stay on the documented Netlify CLI, and to stop and report when a deploy fails rather than work around it. - Each skill carries its own version, and npx @netlify/skills@latest check shows whether installed skills are current.
