Before you start
An admin has to switch the server on under Admin > AI > MCP. Then add https://[your-metabase]/api/metabase-mcp to your agent and sign in; the exact address is under Admin > AI > MCP > Settings. For Claude Code the docs give claude mcp add --scope user --transport http metabase [URL], then /mcp and Authenticate. The consent screen lists permissions. Reading and running queries are always included. Untick writing content and alerts for the first three steps if you want to look first. Nothing it does goes beyond what your own Metabase account can do.
