About
Subtext is Fullstory's session replay built for agents. It captures production sessions of your web app and lets your agent read them as structured data: the pages a user visited, their clicks, console errors and network calls, and what the screen showed at any moment. As a Gemini CLI extension, it connects Gemini CLI to Subtext's hosted MCP server and adds Subtext's skills for searching sessions, reviewing them and managing privacy rules. What you can do with it - Find sessions by what happened in them, such as reaching checkout and getting an error from the payment call, or list one user's recent sessions - Open a session, read its event map and zoom in on the moments that matter - Take a snapshot of what the user saw at any moment: a screenshot, the component tree and bounding boxes - Get a plain-language account of what happened, with a likely root cause - Scan a session for personal data, propose masking rules, test them in preview and promote them - Add URL and network capture rules How it connects First add Subtext's capture snippet to your web app so sessions are recorded; the setup wizard (npx @subtextdev/subtext-wizard) can do this for you. Then install the extension with gemini extensions install https://github.com/fullstorydev/subtext. It points Gemini CLI at https://api.fullstory.com/mcp/subtext, which you sign in to with OAuth, or with a Subtext API key sent as a bearer token. You need a Subtext account, which is free to start. Good to know - Form inputs are masked in the browser before anything is recorded, so your agent never sees what users typed into them. - Most tools only read. The privacy tools change your org's capture rules: element rules start in preview and reach every session only when you promote them, and the agent can't delete live rules. URL and network rules apply to all sessions as soon as they're created. - Reviewing sessions uses agent credits from your Subtext plan. - Session search covers page visits, custom events and failed network requests, not clicks or console messages. - Subtext is a Fullstory product, built on Fullstory's capture.
