# video-shotcraft

> Turns your product's real pages into a cinematic promo video, animated in Remotion from tuned shot recipes and cut to the beat with sound.

video-shotcraft is an open-source Agent Skill by Vincent Wei (Wei Yihao) for making product promo videos. Ask your agent for a promo and it captures your product's real pages, picks shots from a library of tuned motion recipes, storyboards the film, animates it in Remotion, cuts it to the beat, adds sound design, checks the frames and hands you an MP4 you can keep editing. It isn't an AI video generator: every frame is drawn by code from your own screenshots and copy.

What you can do with it
- Make a promo or launch film for a web or desktop product, starting from its project or a webpage
- Use the ready-made Ink Press template and swap in your own screenshots, copy and logo
- Pick shots by name from its online Gallery (deck-deal-flyin, spotlight-hero-card and the rest) and build the film from them
- Make a single motion shot, such as a product close-up, from one recipe card
- Keep editing the finished film in its browser-based Motion Workbench: trim, retime or swap shots, change captions, sizes and colours, then export
- Optionally export an editable JianYing (CapCut CN) draft, or publish the film to social platforms through Upload-Post when you ask

How it works
- There are three ways to make a full film: the Ink Press template; free creation, where the agent decides the direction, shots and storyboard on its own; or co-creation, where you approve the brief, visual direction, shot mapping and storyboard step by step. If you haven't chosen, it looks over your product, recommends one and asks.
- It captures your real pages with a headless browser and takes the film's fonts, colours and spacing from your product's own design system. Customer, personal and other sensitive data is swapped for made-up or anonymised content before capture.
- Its recipe cards cover opening, camera, transition, typography, UI entrance, interaction, data, light, rhythm and outro shots, each with a Remotion implementation, plus reusable components, sound effects and music tracks.
- It syncs cuts to the music's beats, renders stills to check each shot, and has a separate review pass check the finished film before delivery. A film with music comes in two versions, with and without the music.

What you need
- Node.js and npm, and ffmpeg. uv is needed only for beat analysis of music. Remotion downloads its own headless Chrome on first render. It's tested on macOS, with notes for headless Linux.
- It's built for Claude Code and Codex. Install it with npx skills add Vincentwei1021/video-shotcraft, or clone the repo and link it into your agent's skills folder (~/.claude/skills or ~/.codex/skills).

Good to know
- It's a community project by Vincent Wei, Apache-2.0 licensed. Remotion has its own license: free for individuals and small teams, while companies may need a paid one.
- The bundled sound effects and music come from Mixkit under its free license.
- Social publishing only runs when you ask, uses your own Upload-Post API key, and confirms the caption and platforms first.
- When it delivers, it suggests (optionally) crediting the author and submitting your film to the project's Showcase page.
