# tlgr

> Lets your agent read and act on your own Telegram account through the tlgr CLI: catch up on chats, search, send, reply and manage groups.

tlgr is a command-line client for a personal Telegram account, built for agents. This is its Agent Skill: it teaches your agent to drive the tlgr CLI, which talks to Telegram over MTProto as your own user account (not a bot) through a local daemon, with JSON output and stable exit codes for every command.

What you can do with it
- Catch up on every unread chat without sending read receipts, read history and search a chat
- Send, reply to, edit, forward and schedule messages, with Markdown formatting and long-text splitting
- Manage chats, groups, channels, folders and contacts, plus reactions, polls, media, stickers and stories
- Push Telegram events to your own webhook so an agent can react to new messages
- Use several accounts side by side, each with its own alias

How it connects
- Install the CLI with pipx install tlgr-cli, then add the skill with npx skills add tlgrcli/tlgr (or the tlgr Claude Code plugin from the same repository). The maker documents Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenClaw.
- Log in with your phone number and the API ID and hash you get from Telegram; your agent runs the steps, and you only read it the login code.
- The daemon runs locally on macOS or Linux and keeps your session on your machine.

Good to know
- It acts as you: messages, reactions and read receipts come from your account. Opening a chat sends a read receipt the other side sees, so the skill prefers the silent catch-up commands.
- The skill tells your agent to preview destructive actions with --dry-run and to confirm with you before deleting, leaving, blocking or messaging someone new.
- Secrets are passed through environment variables, stdin or files, never on the command line. It honours Telegram's rate limits and waits when told to.
- A community project, not made by Telegram. MIT licensed.
