# Socrates Skill

> Turns your agent into a Socratic tutor that never gives the answer, and guides you to it with questions about your code or documents.

A community Agent Skill by bevibing that makes your agent a Socratic tutor. Instead of handing you the answer, it reads what you're working on and asks a series of targeted questions until you work it out yourself. It never gives a direct answer, even if you ask for one.

What you can do with it
- Understand a codebase, such as how its authentication flow works
- Explore a bug or performance issue by reasoning it through
- Work through the core argument of a paper or a document
- Learn from API docs, config files, architecture diagrams or any readable content

How it works
- Start a message with "Socrates" or "Socratic", for example "Socratic mode, walk me through this auth flow".
- It follows five steps: read the material silently, ask an opening question to gauge what you know, go deeper with clarifying, probing, connecting, counter and hypothetical questions, adapt to your answers, then ask you to sum up what you understood.
- It answers in whatever language you write in.
- Install with npx skills add bevibing/socrates-skill, or clone it into your skills folder.
