itr-wala

itr-wala is an open-source skill by Karan Bansal for preparing Indian income tax returns with an agent. The agent reads your documents and interviews you, while tested Python code does every tax calculation, so the numbers don't rest on the model's arithmetic. It covers returns for FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) and advance-tax planning for FY 2026-27. It also installs as a Codex plugin, or you can clone the repo and run install.sh. - It needs Python 3. Its document helpers also use OpenSSL, pdftotext and qpdf. - The tax engine runs on your machine. Documents you ask the agent to read are processed by the model, so it suggests redacting PAN, Aadhaar and account numbers. Good to know - It never asks for your portal password or OTP, and never clicks Pay, Submit or e-Verify: you do those yourself. - It runs its own test suite before it works on your return. - It's for resident individuals; the README lists what's in scope and what it refuses.
