About
career-ops is an open-source, local-first job search system that runs inside your AI coding agent, created by Santiago Fernández de Valderrama (santifer). Paste a job link or description and it checks the posting is still open, scores the role against your real CV in an A–H report with a 1–5 score, writes a tailored CV and cover letter as PDFs, and logs the application in a tracker on your machine. It drafts and fills; you review and press Submit. What you can do with it - Evaluate a job: role summary, CV match, level, compensation research, interview prep and a check on whether the posting is still live or a repost - Compare and rank several offers - Get an ATS-readable CV and a cover letter as PDFs, tailored to the posting from your own experience - Scan the careers pages of companies you choose, through public job feeds such as Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever, for new roles - Research a company, find the hiring manager or recruiter worth contacting and draft a short LinkedIn note - Track applications, follow-ups and outcomes, and see patterns in rejections - Prepare for interviews with a story bank, practice sessions and debriefs, and read a job offer clause by clause How it works - Set it up with npx @santifer/career-ops init, which creates a career-ops folder, then open your agent in that folder. The skill needs it: it reads its modes, scripts and templates from there. - On first launch it asks for your CV, profile and target roles in the chat. Nothing to configure by hand. - It runs in coding agents that read Agent Skills, such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Antigravity and more. - PDFs are made with Playwright and Chromium (npx playwright install chromium). Good to know - It never submits an application or sends an email. Its apply mode fills a form in a browser it opens, and you review it and click Submit. Emails and LinkedIn notes are drafts. - It isn't a mass-apply tool: it tells you to skip roles that score below 4.0 out of 5, and you can override it. - Your CV and data stay on your machine and go only to the AI provider your agent uses. There's no telemetry. - The scanner reads public job feeds and careers pages. It leaves out sites whose robots.txt blocks it or that would need bot-detection evasion, and you're responsible for following each job site's terms. - Read every CV before you send it. A check blocks numbers and facts that aren't in your own sources, but it can't judge every rewording. - Free and MIT-licensed. It's a community project, not affiliated with the employers or job boards it reads.
