# You.com MCP Server

> Give your agent live web search, full page content, cited research and finance research from You.com.

You.com's own MCP server. It gives your agent live web search, page content extraction, citation-backed research and finance research through You.com's APIs. It's hosted at https://api.you.com/mcp, and the @youdotcom-oss/mcp package runs it locally over STDIO.

What you can do with it
- Search the web and news for current information, facts and primary sources (you-search)
- Extract the full content of web pages as Markdown or HTML (you-contents)
- Run citation-backed research on a question (you-research)
- Run finance research (you-finance)
- Check your You.com account balance (you-balance)
- Discover AI agents, MCP servers and skills (you-discover)

How it connects
The hosted server at https://api.you.com/mcp offers you-search, you-contents, you-balance and you-discover by default. Agents that support MCP sign-in (OAuth 2.1) connect without a key and sign you in to You.com; for the others, send a You.com API key as an Authorization: Bearer header. Add you-research or you-finance with ?tools= (for example ?tools=you-search,you-finance), or connect to https://api.you.com/mcp/research or https://api.you.com/mcp/finance.
To try it without an account, https://api.you.com/mcp?profile=free offers you-search and you-discover with no key, up to 100 queries a day.
The local package (npx @youdotcom-oss/mcp) needs either YDC_PROFILE=free or a YDC_API_KEY, and it doesn't support OAuth.
You.com documents setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, Zed, JetBrains IDEs, OpenCode and more.

Good to know
- you-research and you-finance have no free usage.
- API keys come from you.com/platform.
- You.com also offers a plugin for Claude Code, Cursor and other coding agents that adds its agent skills alongside these servers.
