# Work IQ

> Microsoft's Work IQ plugin lets your agent ask about, read and act on your Microsoft 365 email, calendar, Teams, files and tasks.

Microsoft's Work IQ plugin connects your agent to your Microsoft 365 work data through Microsoft's hosted Work IQ MCP server, and adds a skill that teaches the agent how to use its full set of tools. It covers email, calendars and meetings, Teams chats and channels, SharePoint and OneDrive files, people and contacts, and Planner tasks. It's the main Work IQ plugin; Microsoft also publishes a separate preview build, Work IQ (preview).

What you can do with it
- Ask open questions about your work, such as what someone said about a proposal, what's top of mind for a colleague or what was decided in a meeting, and get an answer from Microsoft 365 Copilot
- Point a question at one of your organization's Microsoft 365 Copilot agents
- List and read email, meetings, Teams channels, OneDrive and SharePoint files and people, such as someone's direct reports
- Send and reply to email, create calendar events, accept or decline meetings, and mark or move messages
- Send Teams chats and post in channels
- Download files and attachments
- Work with Microsoft Business Applications records, such as CRM, ERP and Power Apps data in Dataverse

How it differs from the preview
- This plugin's skill sends questions that need understanding or a summary to Work IQ's ask tool, which hands them to Microsoft 365 Copilot, and uses the faster entity tools for exact lookups and changes.
- The preview build gathers context first with Grounding retrieval and summarizes it in your agent, and only calls Copilot or another agent when you ask for one. Microsoft says the preview doesn't change this plugin's approach.

How it connects
In GitHub Copilot CLI, run /plugin marketplace add microsoft/work-iq, then /plugin install workiq@work-iq. The package also ships Claude and Codex plugin manifests. It connects to Microsoft's hosted Work IQ MCP server at https://workiq.svc.cloud.microsoft/mcp and signs in with your Microsoft 365 work account. It doesn't run a local server.

Good to know
- Microsoft labels the Work IQ plugins a public preview, so features and APIs may change.
- Microsoft says each user needs a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, on top of a Microsoft 365 base license such as E3, E5 or Business Premium.
- A tenant administrator has to consent to Work IQ's permissions once. If you aren't one, the consent prompt asks you to contact your admin.
- Writes happen straight away, so its skill asks you to confirm before it sends or forwards mail, accepts or declines meetings, or permanently deletes anything.
- File downloads are limited to 4 MB, and uploading files isn't available yet.
