# US Code Federal Statutes

> Lets your agent search and read the United States Code, with linked citations, from an independent mirror at uscode.ecfr.io.

US Code Federal Statutes is a free, hosted MCP server for reading the United States Code on uscode.ecfr.io. It's a third-party service, not a US government one: uscode.ecfr.io is an independent mirror of the public US Code text published by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel (OLRC), maintained by an independent developer (lrehmann on GitHub). Despite the name, ecfr.io isn't the government's eCFR site.

What you can do with it
- Search the Code by full text, or by a citation such as 5 USC 552
- Read a whole section, page by page for long ones
- List the Code's titles
- Get an inline citation and a legal citation for each section, both linking to it on uscode.ecfr.io
- Use its citation guide and its statute research prompt in agents that support MCP resources and prompts

How it connects
It's hosted at https://uscode.ecfr.io/mcp. There's no account, key or sign-in, and every tool is read-only. You can also run it yourself from the GitHub repository (Node.js 20 or newer, built from source; there's no npm package).

Good to know
- The text comes from the site's latest published OLRC release, and each answer names the release and its date. The maintainer says it isn't a real-time check for later amendments, so confirm current law against the OLRC's own site (uscode.house.gov).
- It gives you statutory text, not legal advice. Search snippets are excerpts; the maintainer advises reading the full section before quoting it.
- The maintainer asks that citations include the uscode.ecfr.io link the tools return.
- The site's privacy policy says operational logs may be kept, and the website itself is supported by advertising.
