# Twilio Developer Kit

> Teaches your coding agent which Twilio products and APIs to use, in what order and what to avoid, plus Twilio's docs MCP server.

Twilio's own plugin for coding agents. It bundles Twilio Skills, packages of procedural knowledge that load when your request matches, with the Twilio MCP server for searching Twilio's docs and API specs. Both are in Public Beta.

What its skills cover
- Setup: account structure, API keys and auth tokens, phone numbers and senders, and webhook architecture
- Planning: choosing the right products before any code is written, for identity verification, marketing campaigns, notifications, customer support and AI agents
- Messaging: SMS, MMS, WhatsApp and RCS, message templates, Messaging Services and inbound webhooks
- Voice: outbound calls, TwiML, conferences, call recordings, and AI voice agents with ConversationRelay
- Verify and Lookup for one-time passcodes, phone number checks and fraud signals
- SendGrid email: sending, templates, deliverability, suppressions, inbound parse and event webhooks
- Studio flows, TaskRouter, Conversation Memory, Conversation Intelligence and other newer Twilio products
- Guardrails: security hardening, webhook signatures, reliability patterns, TCPA and consent, HIPAA, A2P 10DLC, toll-free verification and STIR/SHAKEN
- Each skill has a CANNOT section listing hard limits and common pitfalls, so your agent doesn't guess

How to install it
In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add twilio/ai, then /plugin install twilio-developer-kit@twilio. It's also in Cursor's marketplace (/add-plugin twilio-developer-kit) and Codex's plugins. The skills alone work in GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, JetBrains Junie and other Agent Skills tools: copy the repository's skills folder to ~/.agents/skills/.

The MCP server
The plugin includes Twilio's hosted MCP server at https://mcp.twilio.com/docs. Its twilio__search and twilio__retrieve tools search Twilio, SendGrid and Segment docs and return exact parameter schemas from Twilio's public OpenAPI specs. It needs no Twilio account or sign-in, and it's read-only: it doesn't call Twilio's APIs for you.

Good to know
Skills activate on their own when a request matches, or you can call one directly, such as /twilio-verify-send-otp or /twilio-sms-send-message. As Public Beta products, they may change and aren't covered by Twilio's support terms or SLA.
