# Shopify AI Toolkit

> Gives your coding agent Shopify's docs, API schemas and code validation for apps, themes and extensions, plus store tasks via Shopify CLI.

Shopify's own plugin for coding agents. It gives your agent a Shopify-aware starting point: it searches Shopify's current developer docs and API schemas, validates the GraphQL, Liquid and extension code it writes against Shopify's schemas, and prepares and runs supported store tasks through Shopify CLI, with you choosing when to run them. It ships as one shopify skill that covers every Shopify developer surface and reads the guidance for a surface only when a task needs it, plus a ucp skill for the UCP shopping CLI.

How to install it
In Claude Code, run claude plugin install shopify-ai-toolkit@claude-plugins-official. In Codex, run codex plugin add shopify@openai-curated; in Cursor, /add-plugin shopify; in VS Code, Chat: Install Plugin From Source with the repository URL. Shopify also documents installs for Antigravity CLI, Hermes, OpenClaw and Pi. The plugin updates itself as new capabilities ship. Without plugins, install the skills with npx skills add Shopify/shopify-ai-toolkit, or use Shopify's Dev MCP server, which runs locally and needs no sign-in.

Good to know
- It needs Node.js 18 or higher.
- Its scripts and hooks send usage telemetry to Shopify by default, including search queries, the code it validates and your most recent prompt when a Shopify skill runs. To opt out, create an empty file at ~/.config/shopify-ai-toolkit/opt-out, or set OPT_OUT_INSTRUMENTATION=true.
- It can take on the bulk of repetitive work such as extension migrations, but Shopify says you should still review and test the result.
