# Screenpipe MCP

> Lets your agent search screenpipe's local recordings of everything on your screen and microphone, from meetings to what you typed.

Screenpipe is a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that records your screen and audio all the time and keeps that history on your computer. This MCP server connects the history to your agent, so it can search what was on your screen, what was said in meetings and what you typed, then summarise it or act on it.

What it records
The screenpipe app captures everything on your screen (accessibility text, with screenshots and OCR as a fallback), your microphone and system audio as transcripts, and input events such as clicks, keystrokes, clipboard and app switches. You can pause capture, exclude apps, windows and URLs, turn off the microphone, system audio or clipboard capture, and redact sensitive text on your device.

What you can do with it
- Search what you saw, heard or typed, filtered by time, app, window or speaker
- Find meetings and read their notes and speaker-attributed transcripts
- Summarise your activity over a time range, by app and window
- Export a video of your screen for a time range
- Tag moments, save memories, and name or merge speakers
- Create and run pipes: automations that run a prompt on a schedule

How it connects
Install the screenpipe app and keep it running: this server talks to the app's local API at localhost:3030. It runs on your machine with npx -y screenpipe-mcp, and the app can connect Claude, Codex, Cursor and other agents for you under Settings, Connections. The server finds the app's local API key itself; if it can't, set SCREENPIPE_LOCAL_API_KEY (from screenpipe auth token) in its environment.

Privacy
- Recordings, transcripts and input events are stored by the screenpipe app in a local database under ~/.screenpipe, kept as long as your storage settings say, and you can delete them at any time.
- The MCP server stores nothing itself. It passes your agent's requests to the app on your computer and doesn't send recorded content to screenpipe's servers. It does send sanitized crash reports to screenpipe unless you set SCREENPIPE_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1.
- What your agent retrieves becomes part of its conversation, so it reaches your agent's model provider. Secrets visible on your screen may be readable by the agent: exclude your password manager, banking sites and cloud consoles.
- Some app features send data off your computer when you choose them, such as cloud transcription, cloud AI and team sync.

Good to know
- Screenpipe's free plan searches recent work on one device; full history and syncing across your devices come with its paid plans.
- With screenpipe's Data Sync, it can also search your other signed-in devices. Enterprise admins can add team-wide search tools with an enterprise token.
- macOS automation features need accessibility permissions.
