# PM Market Research

> Market research skills for product managers: personas, segments, journey maps, TAM/SAM/SOM, competitor analysis and feedback sentiment.

A community plugin by Paweł Huryn, author of The Product Compass newsletter, from his PM Skills marketplace (phuryn/pm-skills). It's the market and user research part of that collection: 7 skills that teach your agent research frameworks, and 3 commands that run them as guided workflows.

What its skills cover
- User personas: 3 personas from your research data, each with a job to be done, top pains and gains, one unexpected insight and how the product fits
- Market segments: 3-5 customer segments with demographics or firmographics, jobs to be done, pains, product fit and the competition in each
- User segmentation: at least 3 behaviour- and needs-based segments from feedback, interviews, tickets or usage data, with representative quotes
- Customer journey map: stages from awareness to advocacy, with touchpoints, emotions, pain points, the aha moment, churn triggers and prioritised fixes
- Market sizing: TAM, SAM and SOM, estimated top-down and bottom-up, with a 2-3 year projection and the assumptions to check
- Competitor analysis: 5 direct competitors found with web search, their strengths and weaknesses, and where you can differentiate
- Sentiment analysis: segments, themes, sentiment scores and pain points from reviews, surveys, NPS responses or support tickets

Its commands
- /pm-market-research:research-users: personas, segments and a customer journey map from your research data, or from a product description
- /pm-market-research:competitive-analysis: the competitive landscape for your product or market, with positioning, pricing and differentiation
- /pm-market-research:analyze-feedback: themes, sentiment and segment-level insights from feedback you paste or upload

How to install it
In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add phuryn/pm-skills, then /plugin install pm-market-research@pm-skills. In Claude Cowork, adding the phuryn/pm-skills marketplace from GitHub installs all of its plugins, this one included. Codex CLI installs it from the same marketplace with codex plugin add pm-market-research@pm-skills, with the skills but not the slash commands. Other agents can use the skill folders on their own.

Good to know
- It's instructions for your agent, with no server, account or API key.
- Competitor analysis and market sizing use your agent's web search; the other skills work from the data you share or describe.
- Market sizes and segment sizes are estimates: check the sources and assumptions it lists before you rely on them.
- It's a community project by Paweł Huryn.
