# PayPal plugin

> Gives your agent PayPal's integration skills, developer commands and its sandbox MCP server, to build and test PayPal payments.

PayPal's own plugin for Claude Code, the PayPal AI Toolkit, from its paypal/AI-Toolkit repository and listed in Anthropic's plugin marketplace. It's made for developers building a PayPal integration: its skills steer your agent toward current PayPal APIs and SDKs, its commands help you set up, test and debug, and it connects your agent to PayPal's sandbox MCP server so you can try real API calls against test accounts.

What its skills cover
- Checkout, card fields, Pay Later, Venmo, Fastlane, Apple Pay, Google Pay, 3D Secure, vaulting and bank redirects such as iDEAL
- Subscriptions, invoicing, disputes and refunds, payouts, payment links and donations
- Webhook setup and verification, access tokens and error handling
- JS SDK v5 and v6 (new projects default to v6), and migrations to v6 or from NVP/SOAP to REST
- Which APIs PayPal recommends, and which deprecated ones to avoid

Commands
- /paypal:setup checks your token and the MCP connection, and refreshes an expired token
- /paypal:doctor scans your codebase for integration issues, such as webhooks not firing, and offers fixes
- /paypal:explain-error explains a PayPal error code with causes and fixes
- /paypal:sandbox and /paypal:test-accounts cover sandbox setup, test accounts, test cards and testing scenarios

The MCP server
It connects to PayPal's sandbox MCP server at https://mcp.sandbox.paypal.com/sse, so your agent can create orders, capture payments and issue refunds, create and send invoices, manage subscription plans and catalog products, handle disputes and shipment tracking, and list transactions, all against sandbox test accounts rather than your live account.

How to install it
In Claude Code, run /plugin install paypal@claude-plugins-official from Anthropic's marketplace, or add PayPal's own marketplace (paypal/AI-Toolkit) and install paypal@paypal-ai-toolkit; then run /reload-plugins. PayPal's marketplace also installs it in Codex and Cursor.

Good to know
- The sandbox server takes an access token rather than a sign-in: create one from your sandbox app's client ID and secret in the PayPal Developer Dashboard, and set it as PAYPAL_SANDBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN in the env block of your Claude Code settings. Tokens last up to 8 hours; /paypal:setup refresh gets a new one.
- It only works with PayPal's sandbox. To work in your live account, use PayPal's hosted MCP server (PayPal MCP) instead.
- Before your agent edits code that touches PayPal's SDK, API or checkout, a hook reminds it to check the best-practices skill and the right SDK version. It never blocks an edit.
