# Obsidian Second Brain

> Turns your Obsidian vault into memory your agent can search, and keeps it true: new sources rewrite pages and contradictions get reconciled.

Obsidian Second Brain is a Claude Code plugin by Eugeniu Ghelbur, a community project that connects your agent to your Obsidian vault. Your notes become memory the agent can search and add to, so you stop re-explaining your work every session. It also keeps the vault current: a new source rewrites the existing pages it touches, contradictions get reconciled and stale facts are flagged. It builds on Andrej Karpathy's LLM Wiki pattern.

What you can do with it
- Save a conversation with /obsidian-save: decisions, tasks, people and ideas each go to the right note.
- Ingest a web page, PDF, Word or OpenDocument file, voice memo, screenshot or YouTube link with /obsidian-ingest. The related pages in your vault are rewritten, not just appended to.
- Start the day with /obsidian-daily, keep tasks on kanban boards, and log work sessions, decisions, people and projects.
- Think with your notes: /obsidian-challenge argues against an idea using your own history, /obsidian-emerge surfaces patterns you never named, /obsidian-connect bridges two topics and /obsidian-graduate turns an idea into a project with tasks.
- Load who you are and what you're working on at the start of a session with /obsidian-world.
- Research into the vault: /research and /research-deep write cited dossiers, and other commands read X posts, YouTube videos and podcasts.
- Keep the vault healthy with /obsidian-health, /obsidian-reconcile and /obsidian-synthesize, or write architecture notes for a codebase with /obsidian-architect.

How to install
In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add eugeniughelbur/obsidian-second-brain, then /plugin install obsidian-second-brain@obsidian-second-brain. Add OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH (your vault's folder) to the env section of ~/.claude/settings.json, restart Claude Code and run /obsidian-second-brain:obsidian-init inside your vault. Plugin commands are namespaced, so each starts with /obsidian-second-brain:. The plugin also brings a local vault MCP server (search, read, save and update notes), which runs with uv. The repository has builds for Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok Bot and more.

Good to know
- Everything stays plain markdown in your own vault, so Obsidian Sync, iCloud and Git keep working.
- The vault commands need no API keys. /research and /research-deep fall back to free sources without a Perplexity key. The X, YouTube, podcast and /notebooklm commands need their own keys (xAI, Perplexity, Google Gemini and others), and the calendar command needs a Google Calendar connector.
- It can run scheduled agents (a morning brief, nightly consolidation, a weekly review and a health check). A background agent that updates the vault after context compaction ships switched off; armed, it writes without asking, limited to reading and editing files.
- It doesn't delete or destructively change notes without your confirmation.
- It's a community project, not made by Obsidian or Anthropic.
