# New Relic MCP Server

> Lets your agent query and investigate your New Relic data in plain language: entities, NRQL, alerts, errors, logs and performance.

New Relic's own hosted MCP server. It lets your agent query and investigate your New Relic observability data in plain language: find entities and dashboards, run NRQL (or have a plain-English question turned into NRQL and run), check alerts and open issues, dig into errors and logs, and see how a deployment affected a service. Every call is limited to the accounts and data your New Relic user can already see.

What you can do with it
- Find entities, related entities, dashboards and accounts, and search entities by tag
- Run NRQL queries, or ask a question in plain English and have it turned into NRQL
- List alert policies and conditions, open issues and alert events, and synthetic monitor results
- Look into error groups, error statistics, change events and recent logs
- Analyze golden metrics, transactions, logs, threads, garbage collection and Kafka metrics
- Generate alert insights and user impact reports, and analyze a deployment's impact
- Preview tools search traces, find what's behind slow or failing traces and map service dependencies

How it connects
New Relic hosts it at https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp/ for US accounts. EU accounts use https://mcp.eu.newrelic.com/mcp/ and JP accounts https://mcp.jp.newrelic.com/mcp/. New Relic recommends OAuth: you sign in with New Relic in your browser. You can also send a New Relic user API key (it starts with NRAK-) in an api-key header, but the AI-powered analysis tools and the preview tools only work with OAuth. An include-tags header (discovery, data-access, alerting, incident-response, performance-analytics or advanced-analysis) limits which tools your agent sees.

Good to know
- A New Relic administrator has to allow MCP in the feature control manager, and you need an organization role that can read the MCP server. API key connections and preview tools each have their own toggle, off by default.
- Most tools are metered as Core Compute Units. The four AI-powered analysis tools are metered as Advanced Compute Capacity Units and need the Advanced Compute add-on.
- The tools read and analyze your data; the preview tools are read-only.
- New Relic documents setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Antigravity CLI, Kiro CLI and VS Code.

## Install

You'll need:

- `api-key` (required): New Relic API Key (User Key starting with NRAK-)

Replace each `<NAME>` placeholder with your own value.

### ChatGPT

In ChatGPT on the web: Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server, then paste https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp under Connection. Business and Enterprise plans; Pro can add read-only servers.

### Claude

In Claude (web or desktop): Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, then paste https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp

### Muse

In Muse: In a Muse chat, ask it to create a custom connector for the MCP server at https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp. Then tap Connect on the card it shows and sign in, or add your key.

### Grok Bot

In Grok Bot: In a chat with your Bot, say "Add this MCP server: https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp". It confirms the details with you and sets it up, and the tools are ready from your next message.

### Grok

In Grok on the web: At grok.com/connectors: New Connector → Custom, then enter https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp and sign in if it asks.

### GitHub Copilot

Add to VS Code: vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22new-relic-mcp-server%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.newrelic.com%2Fmcp%22%7D

Copilot CLI:

```shell
copilot mcp add --transport http --header 'api-key: <api-key>' new-relic-mcp-server https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp
```

### Cursor

Add to Cursor: cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=new-relic-mcp-server&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC5uZXdyZWxpYy5jb20vbWNwIiwiaGVhZGVycyI6eyJhcGkta2V5IjoiPGFwaS1rZXk%2BIn19

Add to .cursor/mcp.json:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "new-relic-mcp-server": {
      "url": "https://mcp.newrelic.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "api-key": "<api-key>"
      }
