# Modem

> Ask your agent what customers are saying in Modem, run the Modem Agent, and update topics, companies and people from the chat.

Modem's own MCP server. Modem gathers customer feedback from chat, issue trackers and support inboxes and groups it into topics, people and companies. This server lets your agent search all of that, run the Modem Agent against your connected tools, and update your Modem workspace.

What you can do with it
- Ask about your feedback in plain words, such as what customers are saying about billing this month. Search only reads and doesn't use agent credits.
- Run the Modem Agent for multi-step work, like summarizing the week's highest-priority bug reports or checking which customers asked for SSO and whether Linear issues already exist
- Change a topic's priority, state or archived status, or update up to 100 topics at once
- Create, update and merge companies and people, and add people to a company
- List, create and change automations, the prompts Modem runs on a schedule or when something happens
- Look up how Modem works in its docs

How it connects
Modem hosts it at https://mcp.modem.dev/mcp. The first time, you sign in with OAuth, choose your Modem organization and approve its permissions; there's no API key. Modem also publishes its own plugins for Claude, for ChatGPT and Codex, and for Cursor, which connect to the same server.

Read-only when you want it
Modem's permissions are granted separately. Approve only data:read and your agent can search, read the docs and list automations, but can't run the agent or change anything. agent:invoke adds agent runs and the write tools.

Good to know
- You need a Modem account in the organization you connect.
- Write tools act as you, within your role, and apply changes straight away. Merges can't be undone from your agent, and most agents ask you to confirm them.
- Agent runs use your organization's Modem credits.
- Calls are limited to 20 a minute per tool for each organization.
