# IWE

> Your Markdown notes as your agent's memory: it finds, reads, writes and reorganizes linked notes in a folder you own.

IWE turns a folder of linked Markdown notes into memory you and your agent share. Its MCP server lets your agent search your notes, read them with their linked context, save decisions and lessons as new notes, and reorganize them. Every note stays a plain Markdown file you can open, edit or keep in git.

What you can do with it
- Find notes by fuzzy search, full-text search or how they link to each other
- Read a note together with the notes it includes or that link to it, within a size budget
- Create, replace and delete notes, with references cleaned up when a note is deleted
- Rename a note and update every link to it, pull a section out into its own note, or inline one back
- Run structured queries and bulk edits over frontmatter and blocks
- Get stats on your notes, including orphan pages and broken links

How it connects
It runs on your machine with npx -y @iwe-org/mcp and works on the Markdown files in the folder it starts in, so set its working directory to your notes folder (in Claude Code, that's the project you open). No account is needed. An optional .iwe/config.toml in that folder changes how it behaves; the IWE CLI's iwe init creates one.

Good to know
- Every write and refactoring tool has a dry run, so your agent can preview a change first.
- It picks up edits you make in your own editor without a restart.
- The same notes also work with IWE's CLI, its editor support for Neovim, Helix, VS Code and Zed, its Claude Code plugin and the iWe app for Mac.
