# Forward Email

> Lets your agent manage your Forward Email domains, aliases and DNS checks, send email, and work with your mailbox, contacts and calendars.

Forward Email's own MCP server lets your agent run your Forward Email account in plain words. Forward Email is an open-source, privacy-first email service, and the server exposes every endpoint of its API as a tool, from domains and aliases to your mailbox, contacts and calendars.

What you can do with it
- Add domains, check their DNS and SMTP records, and test custom S3 storage
- Create, update and delete aliases, and generate alias passwords for IMAP and SMTP
- Send email, list what you've sent, check its delivery status and your sending limit
- Search, read, draft, flag and delete messages, and organise folders
- Manage contacts (CardDAV), and calendars and events (CalDAV)
- Write and activate Sieve filter scripts, and manage domain members, invites, catch-all passwords and delivery logs
- Encrypt forwarding records for your DNS TXT entries

How it connects
It runs on your machine with npx @forwardemail/mcp-server, over stdio. Add your Forward Email API key (My Account, then Security, then API Keys) as FORWARD_EMAIL_API_KEY. The mailbox, folder, contact and calendar tools also need an alias: set FORWARD_EMAIL_ALIAS_USER to the alias address and FORWARD_EMAIL_ALIAS_PASSWORD to a password generated for it, or pass them with each request. Forward Email's guide covers Claude Desktop and Cursor, and it works in any agent that runs local MCP servers.

Good to know
- Your credentials stay in your environment and aren't sent to the model. The server is stateless and doesn't store your mail.
- It can send email and delete domains, aliases and messages, so check what your agent is about to do.

You'll need:

- `FORWARD_EMAIL_API_KEY` (required): API key from https://forwardemail.net/my-account/security
- `FORWARD_EMAIL_ALIAS_USER` (optional): Alias address for the mailbox, calendar and contact tools
- `FORWARD_EMAIL_ALIAS_PASSWORD` (optional): Generated password for that alias

Replace each `<NAME>` placeholder with your own value.
