# Etherscan MCP

> Lets your agent look up live onchain data from Etherscan: transactions, balances, token transfers and verified contracts on many chains.

Etherscan's own hosted MCP server. It connects your agent to live Etherscan API data, so you can ask in plain language about addresses, transactions, tokens and contracts and get answers grounded in real Etherscan API responses. One connection covers every chain Etherscan supports: the agent passes the chain ID (Arbitrum is 42161).

What you can do with it
- Summarise a transaction: sender, recipient, value, input data, and whether it succeeded
- Look up an address's native balance, transactions, internal transfers and token transfers (ERC-20, ERC-721 and ERC-1155)
- Read a verified contract's source code and ABI, and find who deployed it
- Filter event logs by contract and topics over a block range
- Check gas prices, find the block at a given time, and list the supported chains
- Show results as an explorer-style Etherscan card

How it connects
Etherscan runs two official servers over Streamable HTTP. The install steps here use the keyless server, https://mcp-keyless.etherscan.io/mcp: it needs no API key, has 16 of the 21 tools and is rate limited. For every tool, connect https://mcp.etherscan.io/mcp instead, with your Etherscan API key as a bearer token (Authorization: Bearer <your API key>); calls there count toward your API plan, and you can create a free key with Etherscan. Five PRO tools need the authenticated server and a paid API plan: token balances with USD values, token info, a token's top holders, address name tags and labels, and the address that first funded an address.

Good to know
- Read-only: every tool reads public onchain data, and nothing signs or sends a transaction.
- Etherscan says listings elsewhere that call themselves "Etherscan MCP" are unofficial and unaffiliated, so only give your API key to mcp.etherscan.io.
- To guard against prompt injection, Etherscan recommends turning on your agent's confirmation prompts and taking care when you combine it with other MCP servers.
