# Egnyte MCP Server

> Lets your agent search, read, summarize, upload and share the files in your Egnyte domain, within the permissions you already have.

Egnyte's own MCP server, fully managed by Egnyte, connects your agent to the files and folders in your Egnyte domain. It can search your content, read documents, ask Egnyte AI about them, and upload, share and comment on files, always limited to what you can already access in Egnyte.

What you can do with it
- Search files by name, content and metadata, with filters for folders, dates and custom metadata
- Read a file's text, ask questions about a document, or get a summary from Egnyte AI
- Ask Egnyte AI Assistant about chosen files and folders, or send questions to your Egnyte Agents
- Create folders, upload text files, and get single-use links to upload or download any file type
- Create share links, read and add comments, and set custom metadata on files
- List project folders and check which account and domain you're connected as

How it connects
Egnyte hosts it at https://mcp-server.egnyte.com/mcp. It signs in with OAuth 2.0: you enter your Egnyte domain, sign in with your Egnyte account and approve the permissions it asks for. Egnyte documents setup for Claude (as a connector), ChatGPT (as the Egnyte app), Claude Code and any MCP client that supports OAuth.

Good to know
- It needs an Egnyte plan that includes it: Gen 4 Essential, Elite or Ultimate, or a Gen 3 Platform plan. Gen 3 plans without the AI Add-On get a smaller set of tools: folder listing, advanced search, file content, upload and download links, and whoami.
- The Agent tools need the AI Add-On or a Gen 4 plan, on domains with Agents turned on, and are for Power Users and Admins.
- Egnyte doesn't store or cache the content that passes through it, and the same rate limits as Egnyte's APIs apply.
