# draw.io MCP

> Lets your agent draw flowcharts, UML, cloud architecture and other diagrams right in the chat, ready to open and edit in draw.io.

draw.io's own hosted MCP server. Ask your agent for a diagram and it draws one with native draw.io shapes, from draw.io XML or Mermaid, and shows it in the conversation as an interactive diagram you can zoom, pan and open in the draw.io editor.

What you can do with it
- Draw flowcharts, sequence and UML class diagrams, ER diagrams, mind maps, timelines and more
- Diagram cloud and network architecture with shapes from the AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Cisco and other draw.io libraries
- Sketch wireframes, floor plans, electrical circuits, P&IDs and business model canvases
- Change a diagram by asking in the same chat: another colour theme, different icons or a missing step
- Click "Open in draw.io" to edit the result yourself

How it connects
draw.io hosts it at https://mcp.draw.io/mcp, so there's nothing to install. Add it as a remote MCP server: in Claude it's also in the connectors directory, and in ChatGPT you add it as a custom MCP server. It needs no account and no sign-in. Diagrams appear right in the chat in agents that support MCP Apps, such as Claude, ChatGPT, VS Code with GitHub Copilot and Cursor; in others it answers with a link that opens the diagram in draw.io.

Its tools
- create_diagram draws draw.io XML or Mermaid as an interactive diagram
- search_shapes finds the right shape in the draw.io libraries before it draws
- get_drawio_reference gives the agent draw.io's XML or Mermaid guide

Good to know
- The hosted server gets only what your agent sends to draw the diagram, not your conversation. draw.io says it doesn't store diagram data or use it to train AI models.
- To keep diagrams on your own network, run the same server yourself with the jgraph/drawio-mcp Docker image.
- For XML diagrams, an optional layout pass can rearrange the shapes into a clean layered layout.

## Install

### ChatGPT

In ChatGPT on the web: Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server, then paste https://mcp.draw.io/mcp under Connection. Business and Enterprise plans; Pro can add read-only servers.

### Claude

In Claude (web or desktop): Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, then paste https://mcp.draw.io/mcp

### Muse

In Muse: In a Muse chat, ask it to create a custom connector for the MCP server at https://mcp.draw.io/mcp. Then tap Connect on the card it shows and sign in, or add your key.

### Grok Bot

In Grok Bot: In a chat with your Bot, say "Add this MCP server: https://mcp.draw.io/mcp". It confirms the details with you and sets it up, and the tools are ready from your next message.

### Gemini

In Gemini: At gemini.google.com: Settings → Connected Apps → Add a custom app, then paste https://mcp.draw.io/mcp

### Grok

In Grok on the web: At grok.com/connectors: New Connector → Custom, then enter https://mcp.draw.io/mcp and sign in if it asks.

### GitHub Copilot

Add to VS Code: vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22draw-io-mcp%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.draw.io%2Fmcp%22%7D

Copilot CLI:

```shell
copilot mcp add --transport http draw-io-mcp https://mcp.draw.io/mcp
```

### Cursor

Add to Cursor: cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=draw-io-mcp&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC5kcmF3LmlvL21jcCJ9

Add to .cursor/mcp.json:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "draw-io-mcp": {
      "url": "https://mcp.draw.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

### Claude Code

```shell
openclaw mcp add draw-io-mcp --url https://mcp.draw.io/mcp --transport streamable-http
```

If it needs a key or sign-in: For https://mcp.draw.io/mcp, add --header NAME=value for each header it needs, or --auth oauth and then run openclaw mcp login draw-io-mcp.

### OpenCode

Run in your terminal:

```shell
opencode mcp add draw-io-mcp --url https://mcp.draw.io/mcp
```

If it needs a key: For https://mcp.draw.io/mcp, add --header 'NAME=value' for each header it needs. Add --global to use it in every project.

### Hermes Agent
