# Court Records MCP

> Lets your agent search US court opinions, PACER dockets in the RECAP archive, judges and courts, through CourtListener.

Court Records MCP is a hosted server from Nexlab, a catalogue of MCP servers run by Stefy Lanza. It searches US court records through CourtListener and its RECAP archive, which are run by the non-profit Free Law Project: written judicial opinions, PACER dockets and filings held in RECAP, judges and courts. It's Nexlab's own service built on CourtListener's public API, not a Free Law Project product.

What you can do with it
- Search the full text of written judicial opinions, by date and by court (federal and state)
- Search PACER dockets and filings in the RECAP archive
- Find litigation involving a company or person by name, across opinions and dockets
- See a court's most recently filed opinions, newest first
- List courts and their ids (federal appellate, federal district, state supreme)
- Look up judges, with their positions and appointment history

How it connects
Nexlab hosts it at https://mcp.nexlab.net/mcp/court-records. It needs a Nexlab account: agents that support sign-in can connect with Nexlab's OAuth, and others take an API key from your Nexlab account page, sent as an Authorization: Bearer header (or X-API-Key). The first 50 calls each month are free with no card; past that, Nexlab sells a monthly plan or pay-per-call credit. The same key also works at https://mcp.nexlab.net/mcp, where every Nexlab server you use appears together.

Good to know
- Court records name real people. CourtListener's terms forbid using its data for FCRA purposes, such as deciding someone's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing or government benefits, or building a consumer report. Nexlab's terms ask you to stay within the terms of the sources it draws on.
- This is not legal advice. Nexlab says its servers retrieve and structure data and are not a substitute for the primary source, which each answer names. Free Law Project doesn't guarantee the accuracy of the records and warns that an AI client may summarize, omit or misstate a record, so check anything you rely on against the original.
- Free Law Project asks that its data not be presented as if it produced or verified an AI-generated analysis of it.
- Free Law Project also runs its own CourtListener MCP server.
