# CoinMarketCap MCP

> Gives your agent live crypto market data from CoinMarketCap: prices, technical analysis, on-chain metrics, trending narratives and news.

CoinMarketCap's own MCP server, hosted by CoinMarketCap. Your agent can look up live prices and market data for cryptocurrencies, run technical analysis, check on-chain and derivatives metrics, follow trending narratives and read the latest crypto news, all from a question in plain words. It's read-only: it can't trade, place orders or change anything on an exchange.

What you can do with it
- Get live quotes: price, market cap, volume and percentage changes, with fuzzy search by name, symbol or slug
- Look up a coin's details: its logo, description, official website, whitepaper and social links
- Run technical analysis on a coin or on the whole market cap: moving averages (SMA and EMA), MACD, RSI, Fibonacci levels, support and resistance, and pivot points
- Check on-chain metrics: holder distribution by holding value and time, whales versus retail, circulating supply and transaction fees
- Follow the global market: total market cap, 24-hour volume, BTC and ETH dominance, the Fear & Greed Index, the altcoin season gauge and ETF flows
- See derivatives data: leverage, open interest, funding rates and liquidations
- Find trending narratives and the tokens behind them, and upcoming macro events that may move the market
- Read the latest news on a coin, and search crypto concepts, FAQs and definitions

How it connects
CoinMarketCap hosts it at https://mcp.coinmarketcap.com/mcp over streamable HTTP, so there's nothing to install. It needs a CoinMarketCap API key: sign up at pro.coinmarketcap.com (the Basic plan is free) and copy the key from your dashboard. Send it in the X-CMC-MCP-API-KEY header, which is the setup CoinMarketCap documents. Some agents can connect with just the address: CoinMarketCap then opens a page in your browser where you paste your API key.

Good to know
- Rate limits depend on your CoinMarketCap API plan, from the free Basic plan up to Enterprise.
- No API key? CoinMarketCap also runs an x402 address, https://mcp.coinmarketcap.com/x402/mcp, where your agent pays 0.01 USDC for each tool call instead of signing up.
- CoinMarketCap describes its on-chain data as limited for now, with fuller DEX and on-chain data on the way.
