# Slack Channel for Claude Code

> Talk to your Claude Code session from Slack DMs and channels, and approve its tool calls there, with access rules and a signed audit log.

Slack Channel for Claude Code (claude-code-slack-channel) is an open-source Claude Code channel by Jeremy Longshore. It connects a running Claude Code session to your Slack workspace over Socket Mode, so you and your team can message Claude from Slack DMs and channels, get its replies in the thread, and approve or deny its tool calls from Slack. It's a community project, not made by Slack or Anthropic.

What you can do with it
- Message Claude Code from a Slack DM or channel and get replies in the thread
- Let Claude reply, react with emoji, edit its own messages, read channel or thread history and download files shared in Slack
- Approve or deny Claude's tool calls from Slack, or write policy rules that auto-approve, deny or need one or two approvers
- Choose who can reach the session: pair your Slack account with a code, keep an allowlist and opt channels in (Claude answers when mentioned, unless you make a channel ambient)
- Let several bots you run work together in one channel, with rate limits and mute controls
- Keep a hash-chained, Ed25519-signed audit log of every decision that you can verify offline

How it connects
It runs on your machine as an MCP server that Claude Code starts, and talks to Slack over Socket Mode, so it needs no public URL. You create your own Slack app (a bot token, xoxb-..., and an app-level token, xapp-...), save both with /slack-channel:configure, then DM the bot and approve the pairing code with /slack-channel:access pair <code>. Start Claude Code with --channels plugin:slack-channel@claude-code-plugins-plus. /slack-channel:install walks you through every step, and can also check, verify, repair or uninstall the setup.

Good to know
- Claude Code Channels is a research preview. It needs a current Claude Code build signed in with claude.ai or an Anthropic Console API key, and on Team and Enterprise plans an owner has to turn Channels on.
- It needs Bun 1.0 or later and its dependencies installed in the plugin folder; Node.js and Docker are documented fallbacks.
- Add the bot to each channel you want it in. Slack doesn't do that when it installs the app.
- Slack messages can carry prompt injection. It drops messages from senders you haven't allowed, won't send its tokens or state files, and its security docs say what it doesn't protect against.
