# CKEditor

> CKEditor's own skills: your coding agent adds CKEditor 5 to any JavaScript project, or updates an existing one, from the live docs.

CKEditor's official plugin for coding agents bundles its two Agent Skills for CKEditor 5, the rich-text editor. They load on their own when you ask your agent to set up or update CKEditor, and they send version-specific questions to the live documentation instead of relying on what the model remembers.

What its skills cover
- ckeditor adds CKEditor 5 to a project: it picks an install method (npm, CDN or ZIP), wires up the editor in plain JavaScript or the official React, Angular or Vue wrappers, chooses the editor type, configures plugins, the toolbar, content styles and the UI language, and sets the license key
- Free or premium: the GPL license key for free use, or a commercial key (with a free trial) for premium features such as collaboration, comments, track changes, revision history and CKEditor AI
- ckeditor-update updates an existing CKEditor 5 integration to the latest version or one you name. It reads the official update guide for every version in between, applies the changes in your code, moves off legacy setups such as predefined builds, puts every CKEditor package on the same version and updates the framework wrappers
- Both check their work: the project has to build, and with a browser MCP they render the editor and check the console for errors. ckeditor-update also compares features and content with how the editor worked before, and reports each change with the guide section that required it

How to install it
In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add ckeditor/skills, then /plugin install ckeditor@ckeditor. The skills alone install with npx skills add ckeditor/skills, or you can copy skills/ckeditor and skills/ckeditor-update into your agent's skills folder. CKEditor documents them for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot and other agents that support Agent Skills.

Good to know
- They don't cover writing custom CKEditor plugins, downgrades, or CKEditor 4, a different product that has reached end of life.
- CKEditor suggests also connecting its documentation MCP server (https://ckeditor5.mcp.kapa.ai, powered by Kapa.ai) for semantic search over the docs. It's optional and separate from this plugin, and asks you to sign in with Google or GitHub the first time.
- Review the changes ckeditor-update makes before you commit them.
