# Business Investment Analyst

> Work out whether a purchase, hire or contract pays off for your business: ROI, payback, NPV and IRR, with every assumption shown.

Business Investment Analyst is a community skill from Alireza Rezvani's claude-skills collection; it installs as business-investment-advisor. It teaches your agent to analyse business capital decisions: equipment, hires, software, real estate, vendor contracts and new service lines. It works through the numbers with you, shows every formula with your figures plugged in, states every assumption and runs upside and downside cases.

It isn't for stocks. In the skill's own words, it does not give personal stock market or securities investment advice; it's for business capital allocation decisions.

What you can do with it
- Evaluate one investment: ROI, payback period, NPV at your cost of capital and IRR against a hurdle rate, plus an upside case (20% better than plan) and a downside case (40% worse)
- Compare several options against a fixed budget, score each on a six-part rubric (ROI, payback, strategic fit, risk, reversibility, cash-flow impact) and rank them by IRR
- Work through build vs buy, lease vs buy (total cost of ownership over the same period) and hire vs automate vs outsource
- Have it raise warnings on its own: payback longer than the asset's useful life, optimistic revenue projections, revenue resting on a single customer, interest left out of NPV, options compared over different time horizons, and sunk-cost reasoning
- Get a write-up that opens with a call (proceed, proceed with conditions, or do not proceed), then the numbers table, every assumption tagged by confidence, the risks and one next step to take before committing capital

How it works
- In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add alirezarezvani/claude-skills, then /plugin install business-investment-advisor@claude-code-skills.
- Describe the investment: the upfront cost, its useful life or contract term, the expected savings or extra revenue, and the ongoing costs. It asks for what's missing a little at a time, works with partial data and flags what it assumed. If you keep a company-context.md, it reads that first.
- It's one skill made of instructions: no scripts, no data feeds and nothing to sign in to.

Good to know
- It's a community skill, not an official tool from any company.
- The results are only as sound as the figures you give it. The skill marks each assumption as verified, a reasonable estimate or assumed, and uses base-case numbers rather than optimistic ones, so check the flagged ones before you rely on the result.
- Its rules of thumb are defaults you can change, for example a cost of capital of 8-15% for a small or medium business and hurdle rates that rise with risk.
