# Bitwarden Atlassian Tools

> Bitwarden's Claude Code plugin for your Jira and Confluence: deep issue research, JQL and CQL search, and opt-in ticket filing.

Bitwarden's own Claude Code plugin for working with Jira and Confluence. Bitwarden built it for its engineering teams and shares it publicly, and it works with any Atlassian Cloud site: it bundles a local MCP server that reaches your own Atlassian site through Atlassian's API gateway, signed in with your email and your API tokens. Reading is the default; creating Jira issues, links and comments is opt-in.

What you can do with it
- Read a Jira issue in depth: the researching-jira-issues skill follows linked issues, sub-tasks, blockers and linked Confluence pages, up to two hops away, and sums them up
- Search Jira with JQL, list projects, boards and sprints, and see what's in a sprint
- Read Confluence pages, their comments and child pages, and search with CQL or by space and title
- Download Jira attachments
- Check whether an old ticket still applies: the assessing-jira-issue-relevance skill compares it with your current code and gives a verdict with evidence
- File work items with the filing-jira-tickets skill: it reads the project's create screen first, previews each payload, asks before creating, and links blockers the right way round

How it connects
- It's a local MCP server that comes inside the plugin. On first run it installs and builds itself, so you need Node.js 24 or later.
- It talks to your Atlassian Cloud site through api.atlassian.com, using your Cloud ID, your Atlassian email and API tokens you create at id.atlassian.com.
- Set ATLASSIAN_CLOUD_ID, ATLASSIAN_EMAIL, ATLASSIAN_JIRA_READ_ONLY_TOKEN and ATLASSIAN_CONFLUENCE_READ_ONLY_TOKEN in your environment before you start Claude Code; the server won't start without them. Bitwarden recommends scoped read-only tokens, and its README lists the scopes.
- Add ATLASSIAN_JIRA_WRITE_TOKEN only if you want it to create issues, links and comments.

Read-only unless you opt in
- Without a write token, create_issue, link_issues and add_issue_comment can only preview the exact payload; nothing is sent.
- Even with one, every write is a dry run unless the call sets dryRun to false.
- Confluence stays read-only, with no write tools at all.

How to install it
In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add bitwarden/ai-plugins, then /plugin install bitwarden-atlassian-tools@bitwarden-marketplace.

Good to know
- It's Bitwarden's internal tooling, shared publicly. Its skills mention Bitwarden's own Jira projects and code repositories, but the tools work with any Atlassian Cloud site.
- It reaches only what your tokens and your Jira and Confluence permissions allow.
- Bitwarden notes that a write token can do more than these tools use (comment properties and attachments in any project you can reach), so look after it more carefully than the read-only tokens.
