# Azure MCP Server

> Microsoft's MCP server for Azure: your agent works with Storage, Cosmos DB, AKS, App Service, Key Vault, Monitor and other Azure services.

The Azure MCP Server is Microsoft's MCP server for Azure. It gives your agent Azure context across many services, so you can ask about and manage your Azure resources in plain words.

What you can do with it
- List and manage storage accounts and containers, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL and PostgreSQL databases
- Work with App Service web apps, Container Apps, AKS, Container Registry and virtual machines
- Look up secrets and keys in Key Vault, and settings in App Configuration
- Query Azure Monitor logs and metrics, and check Resource Health
- Get and act on Azure Advisor recommendations, and check quotas and retail pricing
- Work with Microsoft Foundry models and agents, AI Search, Event Grid and Event Hubs
- Generate Azure CLI commands and get Terraform best practices for Azure

How it connects
It runs on your machine with npx @azure/mcp@latest server start, and also comes as a .NET tool, a Python package and a Docker image. Sign in to Azure first, for example with az login. You can also host it remotely on Azure Container Apps for clients that need an HTTP server, like Microsoft Foundry and Copilot Studio. In Claude Code, the Azure plugin from Anthropic's marketplace bundles it with Azure agents and skills.

Choose what it can do
By default it groups its tools by service. You can limit it to the services you need, or start it in read-only mode so it can't make changes. It also connects to Azure's sovereign clouds.
