# AWS Serverless

> Build, deploy and debug serverless apps on AWS with your agent: AWS's skills for Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, SAM and CDK.

AWS Serverless is a Claude Code plugin from Amazon Web Services' Agent Plugins for AWS (awslabs/agent-plugins). It bundles seven agent skills for serverless work on AWS, the AWS Serverless MCP Server, and a hook that checks your SAM templates as you edit them. The skills load when a task matches.

What its skills cover
- AWS Lambda: designing functions and event sources, security, idempotency, limits and troubleshooting
- Amazon API Gateway: REST, HTTP and WebSocket APIs, custom domains, Lambda authorizers, throttling, CORS and private APIs, including fixing 4xx, 5xx and CORS errors
- Deploying with AWS SAM or the AWS CDK, and serverless CI/CD pipelines
- Lambda durable functions: long-running, multi-step workflows with checkpoints, retries, the saga pattern and human-in-the-loop callbacks
- Lambda Managed Instances: whether a workload fits, a cost comparison, capacity providers and migrating the code
- Lambda MicroVMs: Firecracker-isolated, snapshot-resumable compute for sandboxed or untrusted code
- Step Functions state machines with the JSONata query language, including moving over from JSONPath

How to install it
In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add awslabs/agent-plugins, then /plugin install aws-serverless@agent-plugins-for-aws. The repo also packages it as a Codex plugin.

How it connects
- The AWS Serverless MCP Server runs on your machine with uvx (so you need uv) and uses your local AWS credentials. Check them with aws sts get-caller-identity.
- Write access is on by default, so the server can create projects, generate infrastructure code and deploy. Reading Lambda and API Gateway logs stays off unless you add --allow-sensitive-data-access.
- Local invokes and container builds need the SAM CLI and a Docker-compatible runtime. The SAM validation hook needs the SAM CLI and jq.

Good to know
- AWS now recommends its Agent Toolkit for AWS (the AWS Core plugin) for production work. This repo keeps working and accepting contributions.
- AWS asks you to review generated code and costs before deploying, and to give your credentials least privilege.
- It's open source (Apache-2.0). You pay only for the AWS resources your agent creates.
