# Discord

> Anthropic's Discord channel for Claude Code: message your running session from Discord and get replies there, behind pairing and allowlists.

Anthropic's Discord plugin turns your own Discord bot into a channel for Claude Code. Messages sent to the bot arrive in the Claude Code session you already have open, and Claude replies in Discord, while the work runs on your machine against your real files. Channels are a Claude Code research preview.

What you can do with it
- DM your bot from your phone and have Claude work in your running session, with the answer coming back in the same chat
- Use it in server channels you opt in, where it answers when it's @mentioned or replied to
- Let Claude reply (threaded, with file attachments), react with emoji, edit its own messages to show progress, read recent channel history and download attachments
- Approve or deny Claude Code's permission prompts from Discord while you're away

How to set it up
Create an application and bot in the Discord Developer Portal, turn on Message Content Intent, and invite the bot to a server you're in. In Claude Code, run /plugin install discord@claude-plugins-official, save the bot token with /discord:configure, then restart with claude --channels plugin:discord@claude-plugins-official. DM your bot and approve the pairing code it sends with /discord:access pair followed by the code. It needs Bun.

Access control
- New senders get a pairing code by default, and their messages are dropped until you approve them
- Switch to an allowlist once you're paired, so strangers get no reply, or turn it off entirely
- Server channels stay off until you add each one, and you can limit which members can trigger it
- Access only changes from your terminal: the plugin refuses pairing or allowlist requests that arrive through Discord

Good to know
- It works in Claude Code, and only while your session is running.
- It needs a claude.ai login or a Claude Console API key, and isn't available on Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud's Agent Platform or Microsoft Foundry.
- On claude.ai Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner has to turn channels on first.
- Anyone on the allowlist can approve or deny tool use in your session, so only add people you trust with that.
- Discord doesn't open its search to bots, so Claude can only look back through recent messages.
