# AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)

> Alireza Rezvani's skill for getting your pages cited in AI answers: E-E-A-T audits, citation-ready rewrites and a citation log.

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is a community skill from Alireza Rezvani's claude-skills collection. AEO is about getting your pages cited as a source when AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini answer a question, rather than ranking in search results. The skill teaches your agent the method and ships three Python scripts that need only the standard library. It's ported from his aeo-box project.

What you can do with it
- Audit a live page or a Markdown file for E-E-A-T signals (experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust) plus structure, and get a 0-100 score with the top fixes
- Hold it to an industry bar: SaaS, healthcare, finance, legal, e-commerce, B2B, media or education, with stricter thresholds for healthcare, finance and legal
- Make a citation-ready copy of a post in conservative, balanced or aggressive mode: schema.org JSON-LD, numbered citation markers on factual claims, an editorial notes footer and, in aggressive mode, a fact-first opening
- Keep a log of where AI answers cite your pages (the page, the assistant, the query and the date), then report citation counts per page or export them to CSV
- Check robots.txt against the AI crawlers first, and use its copy-ready blocks (definitions, steps, tables, FAQs, summary boxes) that answer engines tend to extract

How it works
- In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add alirezarezvani/claude-skills, then /plugin install aeo@claude-code-skills.
- Ask for an AEO audit, an E-E-A-T audit or an AI citation strategy, and the agent runs the scripts and works from the skill's references.
- Reports come out as Markdown, or as JSON for a content pipeline.

Good to know
- It's a community skill, not an official tool from any AI company.
- The audit counts patterns in the text (bylines, credentials, numbered citations, links, schema markup, disclosures, headings and lists). It doesn't query any AI assistant: you add the citations you find yourself.
- The optimizer leaves citation markers and a disclosure placeholder for you to fill in with real sources, and writes a new file rather than changing yours.
- Everything stays on your machine, in ~/.aeo-data/, with no telemetry.
