# Hermes Agent

> Nous Research’s open-source agent that remembers, writes its own skills and lives where you chat

Hermes Agent is Nous Research's open-source AI agent that runs on your own computer or server. It keeps memory across sessions, writes its own reusable skills and runs scheduled tasks. You reach it from the terminal, the Hermes desktop app, or messaging apps like Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal and email. It works with Nous Portal, OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or any OpenAI-compatible model provider.

What you can add
- MCP servers, local or hosted, under mcp_servers in ~/.hermes/config.yaml or with `hermes mcp add`. Hosted servers can take headers or sign in with OAuth (auth: oauth). It also has a catalog of servers Nous has reviewed (`hermes mcp`).
- Agent Skills (the agentskills.io standard) in ~/.hermes/skills, or from its Skills Hub with `hermes skills install`.
- It can import MCP servers and skills from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or OpenClaw in one command.

How it connects
It runs where you install it, so it starts local servers itself and reaches hosted ones over the internet. On a remote server, OAuth sign-in needs a way back to your browser, which the desktop app handles for you.

Pricing
Free and open source under the MIT license. Models come from your own provider or Nous Portal credits.
